Whats the Best Social Media Recruitment Campaign There is always one campaign that stands out from the crowds. Most people kick themselves for not thinking of it first. But what usually happens is it inspires recruiters to come up with their own campaigns in a bid to make it bigger and better than their rivals. This week our panel of social media experts share with us their thoughts on campaigns theyve seen that they think are at the top of their game. Ariel Jolo Medallias ?? just kidding. Many years before I started in employer branding I saw Intels Rock Stars campaign and I loved it. It was really fresh at that time (and the term hadnt been so misused yet). In more recent times, I can think of Heinekens Go Places campaign and, of course, Zappos Insider program. Ariel Jolo,  Global Employer Brand Manager, at Medallia. Adrian Cernat Not necessarily a campaign per se, but an ongoing great strategy to attract talent would be Twitter, join the flock. Also, EuroWings did a terrific job with their Tinder campaign, bringing something new and fresh in the industry. For example our India team has been running the TechChallenge hackathon using the power of social media to invite top talent to solve industry/business problems and showcase their expertise. Cameron Brain We’re fortunate to have some industry-leading companies running their social recruiting efforts on our platform, which gives us a unique perspective into what they’re doing and what works (and what doesn’t).   Time and time again what resonates the most with prospective hires are the authentic, human stories created by actual employees. We recently did a program review with one of these clients and found the #1 piece of content their team shared (which drove the most engagements and clicks) was a video, created by an employee of them walking through the office, showing off the space, chatting with colleagues, etc.   It was simple, genuine, and clearly connected with the people their recruiting team shared it with. Using the hashtag #internswanted, Mastercard Canada gave college students the chance to compete for an internship on social media. Applicants each submitted an idea for a product, app, or technique to help the company move towards creating a cashless future. Contestants were judged on the amount of likes and retweets their ideas got. They received 532 qualified candidates and expanded their program to hire an additional intern due to the talent quality. This campaign stood out to us as a great example of engaging social media, with immediate potential to become self-perpetuating as more and more candidates shared their entries. Mark Cavanagh, Marketing Manager at The One Group. Victoria Sorensen One campaign that struck me at the time was the OgilvyOne campaign to find a sales person via YouTube video. This was about 10 years ago. Potential candidates had create a video of themselves selling a brick. I remember thinking at the time that this was ahead of its time. It would be very relevant today and I actually think the new generation of candidates coming into the workplace have grown up with video and are for more comfortable with their screen presence. Othamar Gama Filho One of the most creative recruitment campaigns on social media has been the McDonald’s Snapplications that allowed candidates to apply for a job at McDonalds restaurants through the Snapchat app. It really targeted their demographics well and made the process easy and fun for the candidate. And, as a bonus, it got a lot of positive attention from the media. Othamar Gama Filho, CEO at Talentify. Stephanie Scher In 2017 we introduced a Learn Grow initiative to help the Vanguard Talent Acquisition (TA) Teams, with both external recruiters and internal talent advisors, understand the value of their presence and participation on LinkedIn. We facilitated training sessions on how to create a great profile, and shared our strategy for networking and cultivating connections. We also discussed how and what to post and provided coaching for social media writing and creating effective headlines. We encouraged the recruiters to share this expertise with their hiring managers and business partners. As our crew became more active on LinkedIn and regularly leveraged the newly minted hashtag, #LifeatVanguard, we saw (and continue to see) a significant impact double the referral traffic YoY to our careers site from LinkedIn and a considerable increase in candidate flow from LinkedIn. Mostly I see more prominent companies like Zappos, Disney, PwC, Microsoft doing a great job on social media. Personally, my favourite is Salesforce (i.e. #salesforcejobs) on Instagram. Its one of the world’s best companies for using Instagram effectively in their employer branding. You can see that they are promoting a genuinely great culture and that their employees are having the time of their lives. The other cool hashtag they use is #dreamjob.   As a Disney movie lover, my favourite Instagram campaign is #salesforceohana. Why? 8 Things That Do NOT Belong on Your Resume Resumes are tricky to get absolutely right and although there are no hard rules about what should and shouldnt be included in it, there are a few things  that can affect how your prospective employers perceive you negatively. In such a competitive job market one slip up can be all it takes to eliminate  you from the running, so its important the you invest time in perfecting your resume and really considering what it is that employers want to read. Its likely that youve read lots of advice about what you should write  in your resume, but what about what you shouldnt include? Here are eight things that you should avoid putting in your resume, to give yourself the best chance of  being considered for the job. 1) Objective: Under objective, you state the type of job you want and what you want to accomplish. Lots of resume templates that you find online will suggest you include this; however, this information is redundant because clearly, your objective is to get hired for  the position you are applying for. A short personal summary of some of your top achievements and experiences  would be a much more worthwhile opening paragraph and will give the employer an insight into what you can offer them, rather than what you are after. 2) Personal information: Including personal information such as your height, weight, age, race, marital status,  number of children is not only irrelevant but also inappropriate. It is illegal for a  prospective employer to ask for this information during a job interview so why include it  on your resume? If this information does not directly effect your work performance or availability, there is no need to include it. 3) Salary: Listing your salary history or demand on your resume is disadvantageous to you and may  cause your resume to be passed over. The issue of salary is usually addressed during  interview or when the employer decides to offer you the job. Unless you are required by  an employer to include this information, leave it out. You  could also potentially close the door on the opportunity to negotiate a higher salary or receive the offer that you were after by disclosing salary information at such an early stage. 4) References: Listing your references or putting “references available upon request” on your resume  is a waste of space. Most employers will not check the references of their candidates until  they have had interviewed them. An employer will ask for your references if they are  interested in offering you a job and you should provide the information at this time. This being said, always make sure that you have up to date contact details for at least three references available if an employer were to ask for them at any point. 5) Links to your personal blog or social media sites: If you are not applying for a writing job, do not include this information. If you are  applying for a creative role, for example a web designer position, you can provide links to your professional website  with your portfolio, and this website should be separate from your personal website. Remember this, most employers are not interested in seeing pictures of you partying with  your friends or what you ate for breakfast. If you do choose to share this information, make sure that you come across as professionally as possible and have not posted anything that will harm your chances of being considered for the job. 6) Untruths: Its tempting to elaborate on your skills and experience when writing your resume, but I recommend you steer as close to the truth as possible when giving your resume a bit of a boost. Recruiters can often see right through any false statements and  will frequently conduct background checks on candidates. On top of this, can you imagine anything more embarrassing than being caught out in a lie mid-interview? 7) Typos and grammatical mistakes: Before you send out your resume, make sure that you proofread it several times and ask  other people to check it over for  you. Make sure that your contact information is accurate  or your prospective employers won’t be able to get hold of you. Moreover, a resume full of  grammatical mistakes won’t  reflect well  on you, as it may imply that you have bad attention to detail or arent taking the job hunt very seriously. 8) Images: It is inappropriate to include your picture or other clipart on your resume. Unless you are  applying for an acting or modelling job, what you look like has little or no impact on your  job. In addition to this, having images on your resume makes it appear less formal.

May Playlist Just Before Summer Hits It’s May! Yay! Who’s excited? This girl and just about everyone else in the Western Hemisphere. May is the month when we tired of any coldish weather; if you’re in school the break is near, and we all look forward to bathing suits, patio parties, baseball, and actually wanting to stay outside for no good reason other than, “it’s nice out.” But before we dive into all the summer activities, let’s make sure we’re wrapping up what is a busy time of year for everyone from finance to retail. So as we’re sliding into May, here’s a playlist for just before summer hits to motivate you to keep working hard while keeping in mind all the fun things that you have to work toward. 1. Emile Sandé â€" Heaven Emile Sandé is the best thing to come out of the British music scene since Adele. Yep, she’s that good. Heaven is a sour tale in an upbeat song that still displays her vocals and will get you bobbing your head at any occasion. Jam out to it while getting ready for work or a night out, or as you rock out to all those mundane work tasks. Also, find her entire album on Spotify and fall in love with her music. 2. Drake Started From The Bottom No matter how much I insist that Drake is somewhat overrated, the man has got it. Started from the bottom should remind you how far you’ve come this year or maybe since last summer. Random: my all-time favorite rendition of these lyrics was when Waffle House tweeted, “Started with a waffle now we here.” Maybe you could come up with your own rendition? 3. Jeremy Jordan/Smash Cast I Heard Your Voice In A Dream Do you watch Smash? Then you would have heard this amazing song. I try to follow the show but every couple of weeks I just end up powering through four episodes when I get a free afternoon or something. Anyway, just before summer hits, if you know you’re going to come across a long lost love, well, revel in this song. 4. One Republic Good Life Whatever your plans are this month and in between all the many things you might have to cross off your list, moments of gratitude should also be enjoyed. I love this song for just before summer hits because it tells you that you’re probably doing a lot better than you think and that the life you have right now might not be where you want to be but that doesn’t mean it’s not the good life. The main page has tabs at the top for functional rolls (like Retail and Marketing) as well as links for Internships and Summer. Above this is a very basic search tool. Below the tabs starts the actual listing of jobs which indicate if they are full time or part time. The right hand side of the page has listings by location. There were over 2,900 job opportunities when I checked the page. ROCS (Responsible Outgoing College Students) Another search engine, ROCS has tabs at the top for Students/Grads, Internships, Find a Job and more. You can sign up for a monthly newsletter or scroll down to the jobs, which are sorted by function and indicate if they are full time or part time. At the bottom of the page you can click links for the main functional categories. National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) In addition to a number of other services, NSCS has a careers page that can help you in your job search. The main part of the page (center right) has links (with overviews) for Careers, Internships, Career Networking and Graduate School. There are some related items on the left hand side of the page. Job Links Databases This list is from Franklin Colleges Student Services and provides a list of resources for college grads and entry level job seekers. Why creating a bucket list is important and how to do it! A couple of years back a wonderful movie called The Bucket List was released starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. It was the story of two friends who were getting on in age and decided to do everything that they had wanted to do all of their lives but never had gotten around to do.   The name was based on the humorous fact that they wanted to do all of those things before they “kicked the bucket”, or passed away, from old age. Since that time the term “Bucket List” has become ubiquitous for putting together a list of things to do before you die. While it may sound a bit frivolous or silly, creating a bucket list is actually an endeavor that psychologists will tell you is very good for a person’s mental health. The reason why is not exactly easy to explain but I’ll give it a try. As a person gets older they can sometimes have resentment, anger or regret that they never did all of the things in their life that they had dreamed about. This might include things like “going to Paris”, “kayaking down the Colorado River” or “learning how to sail”. Not having done these things can sometimes, even if a person has been successful in their life and their career, leave them with the feeling that their life has been unfulfilling, unrewarding or “empty”.   These are negative sentiments that can adversely affect a person’s health. That being said, making a Bucket List is a great way to allay those negative feelings as well as put those wants and dreams onto a big “to do” list.   Once there, and if financially feasible, a person can start actually doing and experiencing the things that they have been dreaming about their whole life. For example, if you have always wanted to learn how to do ice carvings, seeing it on your Bucket List may be just the impetus you need to research “ice carving” online and find a place or a professional ice carver that’s willing to teach you.   The same thing can be said for practically any skill that you might want to learn including cooking, learning a new language, learning how to sew, learning how to write a book, etc. Creating a Bucket List is a great way to “see” your dreams on paper and start making them a reality.   For many people just making their list is cathartic and can help to put their mind and their thoughts in a better place.   Making a Bucket List with your spouse or significant other can also be a great way to get to know each other better. Indeed, some of the things that you find out about each other might be quite surprising. In terms of creating your Bucket List, there’s really no set rules.   Whether you want to use pen and paper or write your Bucket List items into your tablet or smart phone, what you do is simply make a list of everything that you’ve always wanted to do, see, create or experience.   Some people use a numerical system to denote how important an item on their Bucket List is.   For example, “seeing Paris” might be number 7 on their list while “learning to speak Italian” might be number 1. No matter what you do, remember that there is no need to hold back when you create your Bucket List. Anything that you’ve ever wanted to do or experience should go on to your list, even if you may not be able to actually do it.   While it may take some time and effort to cross the “big” things off of your list, if you have a number of “small” things on there that you can check off as you do them you’ll find that your Bucket List, and making the things on that list happen, can be a thoroughly enjoyable and highly rewarding experience. and  Katie Weiser Encore Career Coaches P.S.  Is your clock ticking towards retirement?
